Boston Protest Encampments

Amid the war in Gaza, many pro-Palestinian student protesters held encampments on university campuses nationwide in April and May 2024. Boston was no exception. Students at schools such as MIT and Northeastern hosted encampments, drawing counter-protesters and police intervention.

A protester is arrested at a pro-Palestinian protest encampment in Centennial Common on Northeastern University's campus in Boston, MA on the morning of Saturday, April 27, 2024. After tension with counter-protesters and rumors of a police raid the night before, police began clearing the encampment just after sunrise. Some protesters left the area before police arrived, Massachusetts State Police started arresting those who remained at 7 a.m. In the end, about 100 people were arrested.
